My trip to Kuala Lumpur was quick and quite frankly pretty boring.  I left Bangkok about noon and got to KL in the afternnon.  I can not say anything good about the airport, trying to get a taxi is a nightmare because there are touts all over trying to get you to take theirs.  they all quote different prices and you have to worry that they will cheat you.  There is no official taxi queue or information booth that I could find.  I finally ended up picking a price and sticking with it until I found a tout that would take it.  The ride in was uneventful except that it started to pour.  The driver would not take me to the front of the hotel and dropped me off at the back door.  I did not tip him.  I checked in to my standard Crown Plaza room and then headed out for food.  I ended up having dinner at the Hard Rock and turning in early.

I got up and walked around town.  The hotel gave me directions to Petronas Tower so I walked over there and got a ticket for the tour.  I had several hours before my time slot so I did a little shopping and bought an umbrella.  The weather was threatening rain and made good on those threats a little while later.  I walked around a bit and relaxed for a while before going back for my tour.  I am glad it was free because it wasn’t really that thrilling.  You got a 10 minute 3D commercial for Petronas (Malaysia’s oil company) then a ride up to the sky bridge on the 40th floor and 10 minutes to take pictures.  Then they take you down, usher you to the gift shop and you are done.  All-in-all worth the price you pay.

I went walking in the rain for dinner and unfortunately ended up at a place where the food was pretty bad.  I stopped by the concierge on the way back to find a place to watch the Superbowl but after searching around they told me they could not find anywhere showing it.  They did say it was on TV in the room, but they turned out the be wrong so I missed what I have heard is the best Superbowl in years, maybe ever.

I was fed up with the overcharging that goes on at the major hotels in Asia so I took the monorail and train to the airport.  The hotel wanted me to use one of their cars at twice the price of a taxi and when I asked them to call a taxi I waited 25 minutes before giving up and taking public transportation.

I would not recommend KL as a tourist destination.  It is a place I am glad I went to but have no intention of ever going back.

Here are some pictures of the tower and from the observation bridge of the tower.
